Zylan is a prescribed medication to be taken along with a comprehensive smoking cessation support program to stop smoking.
Zyban (generic: bupropion hydrochloride 150 mg) can be prescribed along with a comprehensive smoking cessation support program as an aid to stop smoking. Although the precise mechanism of how bupropion works has not yet been discovered, it is believed to reduce craving for nicotine by blocking some of the chemicals in the brain that react with nicotine to generate dopamine, the “pleasure” neurotransmitter. Dosage Take Zyban exactly as prescribed. Usually, treatment should begin two weeks before a preset date (the Target Stop Smoking Date) and start with one tablet each day, increasing to the full prescribed dose at the end of the first week while still smoking.
Take Zyban with or without food at approximately the same time each day. Swallow the tablets whole. Do not chew, crush or split them. This can cause the medicine to be released too quickly and can produce unwanted side effects.
If a scheduled dose has been missed, take the next dose at the usual time. Do not double-dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
