Linzess and Constella are the generic names of medications containing the active ingredient linaclotide. Linaclotide is a guanylate cyclase-C (G-CC) agonist that increases fluid secretion in the intestine, which can help stimulate bowel movement and soften stools, reducing constipation. Linzess is used to treat patients with different forms of constipation, including irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, chronic constipation with an unknown cause, and functional constipation in pediatric patients ages 6-17.

Side Effects: The most common side effect is diarrhea. It usually begins within the first two weeks of using Linzess as a treatment. If severe diarrhea is experienced while taking this treatment, it is advised to stop taking it and contact a doctor or healthcare provider. Other common side effects may include: Gas Abdominal pain A feeling of fullness, swelling, or pressure in the abdomen
Indication: Linzess is indicated for the treatment of different types of constipation, including irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, chronic idiopathic constipation, and functional constipation in pediatric patients 6-17 years of age. Linzess is an oral tablet taken once daily on an empty stomach (30 minutes after food intake). If taken with applesauce or water, it is advised to refrain from eating 30 minutes after use.
