Biktarvy is a combination therapy for AIDS, treating people who have been infected by the HIC virus.
Biktarvy (contains sodium bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide) is recommended as a first-line choice of antiretroviral therapy for the treatment of adults who have been infected with the human immunodeficiency virus1 (HIV-1). It is classed as a highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).
Biktarvy contains bictegravir, an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI); emtricitabine, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI); and tenofovir alafenamide, a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI). It can only be used if there is no history of viral resistance to integrase inhibitor class drugs such as Truvada or Viread . Cautions Biktary should not be taken with a non-prescription substance, St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum), or any products containing it. Be sure to inform the prescribing physician if you have been taking St. John’s wort, which is a herbal remedy used for depression and anxiety.
Get advice from a doctor or pharmacist if you are taking non-prescribed medications. This includes antacids to treat stomach ulcers, heartburn, or acid reflux if they contain aluminum and/or magnesium hydroxide; mineral supplements or vitamins containing magnesium or iron or iron supplements. Dosage The prescribing doctor will determine the dose and treatment regimen. Always take this medicine exactly as instructed by the pharmacist. The usual dose of Biktarvy is one tablet daily, with or without food.
It is important not to miss a dose of Biktarvy. If you miss a scheduled dose and notice within 18 hours of the regular, take the tablet immediately. If more than 18 has elapsed, skip that dose, wait, and take the next dose at the usual time. Do not double-dose.
